Mindfulness can bring us liberation from automatism, the need for immediate response, and it allows us to experience what we experience at a different level of consciousness. From a certain perspective one could conclude that without mindfulness set at the present moment, it is difficult to live and act consciously. There are many exercises to deepen attendance, and among them all the most fundamental is the practice of deep relaxation.
Meet the 5 basic principles of mindfulness:
1. Breathe consciously
Breath is the bridge that connects you to the present moment - the best way to anchor in full awareness. Each time you are distracted, focus on your breath. Pay attention to inhalation and exhalation. Few minutes of this practice will bring you back to here and now.
2. Focus on one thing at a time
If you are washing your hair, be fully aware that you are washing your hair. Note the smell of the shampoo, temperature of the water, texture of your hair, the sensation it brings to your head, the touch of the water. When you finish washing your hair, you will find that your attention has made this banal activity a true feast. No matter what you do - you walk, you dance, you buy grocery - each of these activities can become an event that train you to be aware.
3. Turn off the autopilot
Do something different than usual. Prepare yourself a sumptuous breakfast in the middle of the week, go to work another way, buy yourself a different coffee than usual, go for a date with yourself to your favourite restaurant, listen to some new artist, look at a close person as if it was your first meeting. Such changes in your daily routine will give you new sensations and make you break the routine and regain the moment.
4. Notice the thoughts and emotions
Start to understand what is going on in your mind. Ask yourself every now and then questions like: What is the moment for me? What do I feel now? What do I think about now? Such questions are like a STOP sign. They teach self-awareness and mindfulness. Every waking up of thoughts and emotions is a step into a sincere relationship with yourself.
5. Just be
Switch from active mode to being. Do not try to achieve anything, go anywhere, do anything. What is to be done will spontaneously be born of your mindfulness. The goals will be realized by yourself when you start acting from deep contact with yourself and you will notice that there is absolutely nothing to accomplish, since the most important thing - your presence at the present time - has been achieved.
